Inspector General of the Marine Corps
Headquarters Marine Corps

Serves as the principal advisor to the Inspector General of the Marine Corps (IGMC) on all inspection matters.  Through the Independent Command Inspection (ICI), the Inspections Division inspects independent commands that are not directly under the operational or administrative chain of command of a major subordinate command, are not inspected as part of any other Commanding General's Inspection Program (CGIP), and the only oversight is provided by the IGMC.  Through the Comprehensive Command Inspection (CCI) the Inspections Division inspects all major commands that are required to execute a CGIP for compliance with this order, Critical or Required Evaluation (CoRE) functional areas, and "inspects the inspectors" to assess the overall thoroughness and effectiveness of the CGIP.  Additionally, the Director of Inspections will hear Request Mast during all inspections on behalf of the Commandant.

Comprehensive Command Inspection (CCI): Typically every third or fourth fiscal year (36-48 months)*

*The headquarters and any subordinate commands may be inspected during a CCI.

Independent Command Inspection (ICI): Typically every other fiscal year (24 months)
